Adrian Deoanca is interested in the cultural lives of infrastructures: whether "natural", such as waterways, "artificial", such as railways and housing blocks, or "social", such as relations of neighbourliness and exchange. In his Timișoara research, he turned that gaze on Fabric.
The inquiry follows everyday cohabitation in the district and the historical transformations of these social relations, in order to understand how diversity is practised beyond the official discourse on cosmopolitanism — how people live together in spite of, or thanks to, ethnic, religious and class differences.
Born in 1984 in Petroșani, in the Jiu Valley, Adrian Deoanca is an anthropologist and earned his doctorate at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA) in 2020.
