Football in Traian 2024

F.I.D. — Football as Infrastructure for Democracy proposed an architectural installation in the form of a natural-grass pitch, set in the heart of the Fabric district, at the intersection of community activation and participatory art. For ten days the pitch hosted workshops for children and adults, concerts, forum theatre and documentary film screenings.

The third edition was supported by a 100,000-lei grant from the Legacy Timișoara 2023 programme, which made possible a whole cultural programme built around the championship: the theatre piece "Tactici de Abuzament" (Ana Maria Ursu / Teatrul Basca), the presentation of the "Loly" collection with actress Zita Moldovan, screenings of the documentaries "Vulturii din Țaga" and "Fotbal Infinit" (dir. Corneliu Porumboiu), and the closing party "Repriza a treia". At the same time, OneTwo Taproom launched "Berea Casei Jakab Toffler", the house beer.

The centrepiece was the amateur football championship with mixed teams formed by residents of the neighbourhood. The tournament is not a sporting competition in the strict sense, but a pretext for giving a voice to the people of the district — a celebration of neighbours and of social and cultural diversity.

The project also generated a series of cultural products: Cezar Tarnu's photographs, Vlad Dragne's film series, and over 120 portraits of participants by Andrei Becheru — consolidating actions begun during Timișoara European Capital of Culture 2023.
