Married vs Unmarried

The exhibition "Married vs. Unmarried" offered a retrospective of the traditional match between married and unmarried men, begun in 1936 in the Plopi district of Timișoara. Bringing together images and personal objects of the protagonists, the exhibition evoked the moments that form an example of the Fabric district's intangible heritage. It was hosted simultaneously in three places in the district: Piața Traian, Rion's Delices and ONE TWO Taproom.

Beyond the game, "the Traditional" is a social ritual: a veterans' demonstration match, the main game, and a festive "third half" in a city venue. The losers ritually received the "losers' cup" and wore black armbands. The condition to take part was a connection to the district. At the 2023 edition of the Traditional, the married men won 5–2 after five years of victories for the unmarried; the oldest player, at 76, and the youngest, at 8, were also honoured.

Curated by the artist duo Monotremu, with text by Vlad Marko Tolea, editor Paul Breazu and photographs by Daniel Dărăban and Marius Vasile. The event was part of the Social Fabric project, within the "Timișoara — European Capital of Culture 2023" programme.
